Battle of Britain 75th Thanksgiving

The Reverend Cannon Andrew Wickens lead the service of Thanksgiving to a large congregation in St Thomas & St Luke Church Dudley.

The flag bearers were a good mix of veterans and RAF cadets.  IMG_0715 IMG_0714

Readings were given by the Mayor, Deputy Leader of the council Cllr Judy Foster and a particularly poignant verse was read by a young cadet from 347 Dudley Squadron ATC and written by a former Spitfire pilot, Flight Lt William Walker in memory of those who lost their lives in the battle.   IMG_0724  reading


Following the service cadets and veterans marched to the cenotaph in the centre of Dudley where  a tribute and exhortation were made by the minister. The last post was played and a two minute silence was observed.  IMG_0735

The words of of the Kohima Declaration were spoken by an RAF Veteran.






The High Sheriff joined the Mayor of Dudley, Walsall, Deputy Leader of the council and Deputy Lieutenant Richard Boot OBE and laid wreaths at the cenotaph.
