The Annual Justice Service in Worcester was held in the glorious Cathedral and coincided with Evensong.
It was pleasure to be welcomed to Worcestershire and join the Procession as we gathered in College Green to make the short, but historic walk to the Cathedral nave. The Procession was led by the High Sheriff Sir Anthony Winnington, Lt Col Patrick Holcroft the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, the Very Reverend Peter Atkinson and joined by many of the judiciary and the Undersheriff who has served the Shrievalty since 1981. I walked with my counterpart from Herefordshire, Edward Hartley who shared his experience of his father’s year as High Sheriff in 1987 and who was also supported by the current undersheriff. Awaiting in the Cathedral was a large congregation, Bishop Dr John Inge, the clergy and The Lord Mayor. The Cathedral was graced by the sounds of choir directed by Dr Peter Nardone and organist Christopher Allsop. Following evensong readings were given by Sir Anthony Winnington , the Right Hon Lord Hughes followed by the sermon by the High Sheriff’s Chaplain The reverend Robert Barlow. Following the service a reception was held in the beautiful circular Chapter House.
In the Cloister corridor there is a collection of past bells.
