This is the website of Jonnie Turpie MBE The High Sheriff of The West Midlands 2015-16.

Jonnie was installed as the High Sheriff of The West Midlands in a ceremony that took place at the Queen Elizabeth II Crown Court on March 31st 2015.  The ceremony was led by The Hon. Mrs Justice Thirlwall DBE.  In the presence of  HM Lord Lieutenant, Mr Paul Sabapathy CBE, The High Sheriff 2014-15, Dr Timothy Watts DL and  the Under Sheriff, Mr. Greg Lowson. The signing  of the incoming High Sheriff’s declaration and that of the Under Sheriff Mr Greg Lowson were witnessed by Mr. David Bradnock MBE DL, Justice of the Peace.  The High Sheriff’s Chaplain The Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, Dean of Birmingham Cathedral, blessed the appointment.

The ceremony was followed by a reception in the Victoria Law Courts in Corporation Street attended by 120 representatives of the Judiciary, previous High Sheriff’s,  County Mayors, Arts, Culture, Creative Industry, Business, Community and Public services. The High Sheriff delivered a speech outlining his plans to support and promote young people’s participation in the Arts, Culture and Creative Industries from across the county from the wealth of Wolverhampton, through The Black Country, Birmingham , Solihull and Coventry.

Jonnie Turpie MBE is the new High Sheriff of the West Midlands and has lived in the County for the past thirty five years from his early research role in the Fine Art Department of Wolverhampton Polytechnic; visiting lecturer at Walsall college; professional roles at Birmingham Film and Video Workshop, Independents Birmingham and for the last 22 years at Maverick Television, which he founded and has enjoyed seeing grow to an international company from humble beginnings in Digbeth. This success is testament to the contribution of many diverse and talented people from throughout the West Midlands. With his partner Marian, they have raised and educated their two children Maisie and Louie in the open minded culture of the West Midlands. He is proud to be following in the footsteps of the many pioneering forefathers and mother’s of this great region who have performed the role of High Sheriff to the best of their abilities.
